Phase Locked Loop (PLL) is an advanced form of frequency generation used in radio circuits. An oscillator generates a controllable output frequency which is measured and adjusted by a counting circuit. The counting circuit uses a fixed reference frequency for its accuracy, and the reference frequency is produced by a highly stable crystal controlled oscillator. PLL circuits must be designed to operate clearly over their entire range of service frequencies and to be well immune from small voltage fluctuations coming from the power source or modulation in the radio's circuit.
